The South African Navy is seeking a dedicated professional to join the team at the Detail Clothing Store in the historic Naval Base Simon’s Town. Position Details
- Salary: R382 047 – R433 176 per annum
- Centre: Naval Base Simon’s Town, Detail Clothing Store, Simon’s Town
Key Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- An appropriate Trade Test Certificate.
- 5 years of post-qualification experience as an Artisan.
- A valid driver’s license.
Essential Skills & Knowledge:
The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive skill set, including:
- Expertise in making and grading patterns, adjusting machines, and various sewing techniques (unpicking, hemming, shortening).
- The ability to re-size garments and undertake precise measurements.
- Proficiency in using various sewing machines and applying badges/braiding.
- Basic machine maintenance, fault-finding, and record-keeping abilities.
- Strong communication skills in English, leadership competencies, and teamwork.
- Knowledge of the OHS Act, clothing textiles, legal compliance, and basic administration.
- Problem-solving, planning, organising, and technical report writing skills.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Your day-to-day role will be vital to the operation and will include:
- Performing alterations on naval clothing and uniforms.
- Sewing on rank badges and assembling medals and ribbons.
- Budgeting for necessary stores and equipment.
- Maintaining all workshop equipment to a high standard.
- Ensuring safety and security compliance in the workplace (OHASA).
