Who Should Apply? The Requirements
This is a senior position requiring a specific set of qualifications and experience. The ideal candidate will possess:
- Education: A Grade 12 certificate (NQF Level 4) and a Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7) in a field related to management science and strategic studies.
- Experience: A minimum of three years’ relevant work experience in a strategic management environment.
- Essential Skills:
- Expertise in interpreting regulatory frameworks and policies.
- A sound understanding of the entire strategy lifecycle: development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Exceptional research, analytical, and report writing skills (knowledge of Conventions of Service Writing is a plus).
- Strong communication and project management abilities.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- The ability to perform under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- All applicants must be eligible and able to comply with the Department of Defence’s security clearance process.
Your Key Responsibilities
As the Chief Director, your duties will be critical to the strategic functioning of the Department of Defence. You will be responsible for:
- Assisting in the compilation of the DOD’s overarching Strategising Policy.
- Updating and aligning the DOD’s Strategic Functional Guidelines with national and departmental imperatives.
- Evaluating the external and internal environment to provide a clear strategic mandate for the DOD.
- Developing and managing the DOD Business Strategy.
- Coordinating and representing the division at key strategising forums.
- Contributing to the DOD Environmental Scan to identify and manage strategic issues.
- Conducting research and benchmarking to assist in the development of new departmental policies, strategies, and plans.
