The Financial Management Division within the Department of Defence (DOD) is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Accounting Clerk to join their team in Pretoria.   • Salary: R216 417 – R254 928 per annum (Level 5)

Minimum Requirements:

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A Grade 12 certificate (NQF 4) or equivalent.

Additional advantages that will strengthen your application:

  • Matric certificate with Finance/Accounting-related subjects.
  • A post-matric qualification in Finance/Accounting.
  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience.
  • A valid RSA driver’s license or Military driver’s license.

Essential Skills and Competencies:

  • Computer literacy in MS Office, specifically MS Word and Excel.
  • Basic knowledge of debt collection, recording, and management processes.
  • Strong reasoning, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with clients and debtors.
  • Must be positive, trustworthy, loyal, and possess sound judgement with an aim for zero defects.

Key Performance Areas (Duties):

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing support in controlling and maintaining current and new departmental debt.
  • Implementing actions to recover outstanding debt from serving/ex-members of the SANDF, Public Service Act Personnel, and private institutions.
  • Registering debt, preparing correspondence, and processing related accounting transactions.
  • Liaising and corresponding with the State Attorney’s office.
  • Ensuring deadlines are met and debt is recovered effectively.
  • Collaborating with the Finance Clerk Supervisor and applying the strict prescripts of the PFMA and Treasury Regulations.
  • Recording, filing, and safeguarding all debtors’ administration documentation for audit purposes.

  • Photostat or faxed copies of documents will not be accepted.
  • Successful candidates will be subjected to Personnel Suitability Checks (criminal record, citizenship, financial/asset checks, qualification and employment verification) and security clearance.

  • Appointment will be on a probation period of twelve (12) months.
