The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DOJ&CD) is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to fill the critical role of Assistant Director for the Criminal Assets Recovery Account (CARA) and the President’s Fund. This is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to South Africa’s efforts in combating organized crime and managing assets recovered from criminal activities.

Position Details:

  • Reference Number: 25/25/FMS
  • Salary: R444,036 – R523,056 per annum (A performance agreement is required)
  • Centre: National Office, Pretoria
  • Closing Date: 31 March 2025

Who Should Apply? Key Requirements

To be considered for this prestigious position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Qualifications: An NQF level 7 qualification in Financial Management or Accounting, recognized by SAQA.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a financial environment at a supervisory level.
  • Essential Knowledge: A thorough understanding of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA), the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), and Treasury Regulations.

Key Competencies and Skills:

  • Computer literacy (MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
  • Expertise in budgeting and financial management
  • Strong people management and empowerment abilities
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Problem-solving, analysis, and creative thinking
  • A strong sense of honesty, integrity, and client orientation

Your Key Responsibilities:

As the Assistant Director, your duties will be vital to the department’s mission:

  • Administer all monies and property allocated by Cabinet through the CARA account and President’s Fund.
  • Monitor the use of allocated funds to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
  • Prepare annual reports and financial statements for both the CARA account and the President’s Fund.
  • Liaise with officials from other departments regarding decisions of the CARA Committee.
  • Provide effective leadership and people management within the unit.
