Opportunity: Principal Court Interpreter (Magistrate’s Office, Welkom)
Are you an experienced court interpreter with leadership skills? The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DOJ&CD) is re-advertising a fantastic opportunity for a Principal Court Interpreter in Welkom. Position Details:

- Salary: R397,116 – R467,790 per annum (Performance agreement required)
- Centre: Magistrate’s Offices, Welkom

Requirements:
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 certificate.
- A National Diploma in Legal Interpreting (NQF level 5) or any other relevant tertiary qualification at NQF level 5.
- Five (5) years of practical court interpreting experience, with a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory role.
- Proficiency in two or more indigenous languages and English. The specific language requirements for this post are: Sesotho, IsiXhosa, English, and Afrikaans.
- A valid driver’s license.
Key Competencies: Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills; time management; computer literacy; analytical thinking; problem-solving; planning and organising; ability to maintain confidentiality and work under pressure.
Duties:
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Rendering professional interpreting services in court.
- Translating legal documents and exhibits.
- Developing terminology and assisting with the reconstruction of court records.
- Attending to personnel administrative matters.
- Procuring Foreign Language and Casual Interpreters in line with the PFMA.
- Providing effective people management and supervision.
