The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development is offering a rewarding and critical career opportunity for two dedicated professionals to serve as Court Intermediaries. These positions are based in the Northern Cape, at the Colesburg and Galeshewe Magistrate Offices, and play an essential role in ensuring access to justice for the most vulnerable.

Salary and Benefits
The successful candidates will be appointed on a salary scale of R397,116 to R467,790 per annum. This package includes a requirement to sign a performance agreement.
Who Should Apply? Key Requirements
This role is suited for qualified professionals from various helping professions. To be considered, you must meet the following criteria:
- Qualifications: A three-year Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in one of the following fields:
- Teaching
- Social Work / Family Counselling
- Child Care and Youth Development
- Pediatrics, Psychiatry, or Clinical Counselling
- Educational Psychology
- Registration: Must be duly registered with the relevant professional body in your field of specialization.
- Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of working experience in the applicable field.
- Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is required.
- Added Advantages: Experience working with different types of disabilities, exposure to court procedures and etiquette, and knowledge of legal terminology.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of key legislation and demonstrate strong competencies, including:
- Legislative Knowledge: Constitution of RSA, Criminal Procedure Act, Sexual Offences Act, Children’s Act, and Domestic Violence Act.
- Skills: Exceptional communication and empathetic listening skills, trauma counselling, interpersonal relations, customer focus, administrative skills, computer literacy (MS Office), and problem-solving.
Your Duties: Key Performance Areas
As a Court Intermediary, you will be responsible for:
- Providing intermediary services to vulnerable witnesses (e.g., children, persons with mental disabilities) when granted by the court.
- Arranging for specialized language interpreting services for witnesses testifying via an intermediary.
- Maintaining the effective operation of the testifying room and the waiting area for victims.
- Rendering administrative support services in court.
