To be considered for this challenging and rewarding position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Educational & Experience Requirements:

  • A National Diploma in Nursing, Midwifery, Community Health, Occupational Health, or Primary Health Care (NQF 6).
  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in occupational medicine.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Well-experienced in occupational health on mines and in industry.

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

  • Sound knowledge of occupational medical and nursing disciplines.
  • In-depth understanding of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), its regulations, and directives.
  • Knowledge of general mining practices and associated occupational health risks.
  • Familiarity with the petrochemical industry, diving, and related equipment is an advantage.
  • Strong researching, investigating, and communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate, dedicated, hardworking, and possess a sound temperament.

Note: Shortlisted candidates will undergo practical exercises and integrity assessments.

Your Key Responsibilities: Duties & Functions

As an Inspector, your work will be critical to safeguarding worker health. Your duties will include:

  • Conducting thorough audits and inspections (both underground and surface) on medical surveillance programs and other occupational medicine matters, taking necessary enforcement action.
  • Investigating and reporting on mine-related diseases, contraventions, and complaints.
  • Analyzing regional disease trends to identify high-risk operations and implement corrective measures.
  • Providing expert input on mine closures, prospecting rights, mining permits, Environmental Management Programs (EMPs), and township developments.
  • Contributing to regional reports and the revision of medical regulations, guidelines, and standards.
