Who Should Apply? Key Requirements
This senior role requires a candidate with a strong legal foundation and significant practical experience. The non-negotiable requirements include:
- An LLB Degree.
- Admission as an Advocate or Attorney in South Africa.
- LP 7: A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate post-qualification legal experience.
- LP 8: A minimum of 9 years’ appropriate post-qualification legal experience.
Recommendations for a Strong Application:
- Proven experience in a legal advisory capacity.
- General experience in parliamentary processes.
- Proven experience in research methods and computer literacy.
Essential Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of Constitutional and Administrative Law, public sector legislation, and the Interpretation of Statutes.
- Excellent legal writing and legislative drafting skills.
- Superb written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Innovative problem-solving, analytical, and sound planning skills.
Your Role and Responsibilities
As a State Law Advisor, your work will be instrumental in the legislative process. Your core duties will include:
- Researching, formulating, drafting, and editing provincial legislation.
- Providing precise legal technical comments on draft legislation.
- Offering expert legal advice and formal written opinions on substantive legal issues.
- Scrutinising, drafting, and editing a wide range of legal documents, memoranda, and official correspondence.
