Who Should Apply? Essential Requirements
To be considered for this prestigious leadership position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Qualification: An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Sub-Specialist in Neonatology.
- Registration: Current registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Sub-Specialist in Neonatology.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist in Neonatology post-registration.
- Driver’s Licence: A valid Code B/EB driver’s licence.
- Availability: Willingness to work commuted overtime (up to 12 hours) as required by operational demands.
- Skills: Computer literacy (MS Office package) and proven competencies in the Ideal Hospital Framework, Standard Treatment Guidelines, and evidence-based clinical care.
Ideal candidates will also possess: A proven track record in clinical service delivery for Level 2 and NICU care, quality improvement initiatives, staff supervision, and training of both undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare personnel. Strong leadership in managing resources and driving transformation is key.
Your Key Responsibilities
As the Head of the Neonatology Department, your duties will be both clinical and strategic, including:
- Providing strategic leadership and efficient management of the Neonatal Functional Business Unit.
- Ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, cost-effective specialised Neonatology service, including outreach programs.
- Upholding clinical governance, managing medico-legal matters, and implementing continuous quality improvement.
- Responsible and rational management of all resources: human, financial, and capital.
- Planning and participating in the training and development of Registrars, Medical Officers, Community Service Officers, and Interns.
- Serving as an active member of the Hospital Executive Management team.
