This is a unique chance to contribute to child and adolescent mental health at a tertiary level.
Position Details
- Post: Medical Specialist: Grade 1 to 3 (Psychiatry)
- Contract Duration: 1 Year
- Centre: Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, University of Cape Town
- Closing Date: 21 February 2025
Remuneration: A Competitive Salary Package
The position offers a highly competitive salary, commensurate with your experience and grade:
- Grade 1: R1,271,901 per annum
- Grade 2: R1,451,214 per annum
- Grade 3: R1,680,780 per annum
Please note that commuted overtime is compulsory for this role.
Who Should Apply? Key Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Qualification: An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Psychiatry.
- Registration: Current registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Psychiatry.
- Grade 1: No experience required after registration.
- Grade 2: Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience post-registration.
- Grade 3: Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience post-registration.
- Other Requirements: A valid driver’s licence and a willingness to travel within the District and Metro region.
Essential Competencies & Skills:
- Ability to comprehensively manage all child and adolescent psychiatry cases.
- Proven leadership abilities and experience in staff supervision.
- Experience in effective resource management and teamwork.
- Knowledge of public health and mental health policies.
- Research experience as a primary investigator or supervisor.
- Computer literacy.
Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Medical Specialist in this unit, your duties will be both challenging and rewarding:
- Provide comprehensive, high-quality child and adolescent mental health clinical services.
- Lead and oversee the daily clinical operations of a multidisciplinary mental health team.
- Provide outreach and support to referrers and other institutions.
- Conduct ward rounds and multidisciplinary clinical meetings.
- Manage allocated resources efficiently and handle administrative duties.
- Mentor and create a learning environment for students and junior colleagues.
- Conduct clinical audits and research to stay abreast of new developments.
