About the Role
The Financial Management Division is seeking a dedicated and meticulous professional to fill the role of Assistant Director. This is a pivotal position within the public service, offering an opportunity to contribute to essential financial operations and team leadership in a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of supplier payments, managing financial documentation, and providing key reports.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A Grade 12 certificate (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
- A three-year Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Finance or Accounting.
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience at a level equivalent to a Senior State Accountant (Level 8).
- Sound knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Treasury Regulations is a strong recommendation.
- Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
- A valid RSA driver’s license will be a distinct advantage.

Key Responsibilities
The duties of the Assistant Director will include, but are not limited to:
- Ensuring the timely and accurate payment of all supplier invoices.
- Managing and verifying all payment documentation for compliance with prescripts and regulations.
- Preparing and registering invoices for payment on the Financial Management System (FMS).
- Investigating and reporting on financial irregularities.
- Compiling and submitting monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reconciliations and management reports.
- Safeguarding all accounting documentation for audit purposes in line with the PFMA.
- Training, guiding, and developing subordinate personnel.
- Participating in budgeting processes and attending the Budget Control Committee.
- Managing personnel and conducting performance evaluations.
