Do You Have What It Takes? Key Requirements
To be considered for this prestigious role, you will need to meet the following criteria:
- A Grade 12 certificate (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
- A three-year Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Finance or Accounting.
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience at a level equivalent to a Senior State Accountant (Level 8).
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of mathematical and accounting principles with excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Strong supervisory and team leadership skills.
- Proficiency in computer systems, specifically the Persol/Persal systems and Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- A conscientious, motivated, and detail-oriented approach, aiming for accuracy in a zero-defect environment.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, under pressure, and to finalize tasks decisively.
Your Key Responsibilities
As the Assistant Director, your duties will be both strategic and hands-on, including:
- Overseeing the accurate execution of accounting processes for financial benefits paid to ex-employees of the DOD.
- Ensuring correct calculations for leave payments, pro-rata service bonuses, and the recovery of overpaid amounts, in strict accordance with prescribed rules.
- Supervising, guiding, and training Finance Clerk Supervisors and Finance Clerks.
- Capturing, authorizing, and approving final payment transactions on the Persol and Financial Management System (FMS).
- Safeguarding all accounting records, documentation, and files for audit purposes.
- Assisting with ministerial and Auditor-General enquiries related to final payments.
- Managing all personnel, assets, and information under your control effectively.
