Purpose of the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing procedures and systems to prevent financial losses. This includes the critical management of irregular, fruitless, wasteful, and unauthorized expenditure, ensuring the department’s resources are protected and utilized effectively.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- An undergraduate qualification (NQF level 6) in Business, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field.
- An NQF level 7 qualification will be a distinct advantage.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a commercial environment, with at least 2 years at a supervisory level.
Key Competencies: In-depth knowledge of Treasury Regulations, the PFMA, risk management, audit investigations, budgeting, and asset management. Strong skills in communication, planning, execution, and team management are essential.
Key Responsibilities
The duties of the Assistant Director are varied and critical to the department’s operations:
- Manage and control Irregular, Fruitless, and Wasteful Expenditure.
- Oversee damages and losses to departmental assets and hired vehicles.
- Present cases to the Loss Control Committee and execute its recommendations.
- Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the PFMA, financial statements, and various committees.
- Maintain suspense accounts for control purposes.
- Serve as the departmental BAS System Controller.
- Drive project management, operational excellence, and strict compliance.
