About the Role
As the Chief Director, you will be responsible for leading and managing the entire assessment and examinations value chain for the Western Cape. You will drive the development and implementation of modern, electronic assessment systems, oversee the administration of all external examinations, and ensure the province remains at the forefront of educational assessment practices. This role is pivotal in supporting schools, districts, and ultimately, learners across the Western Cape.
Key Requirements
To be considered for this prestigious position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- An undergraduate qualification (NQF level 7) as recognised by SAQA.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience at a senior managerial level.
- Successful completion of the Certificate for entry into the Senior Management Service (SMS).
- A valid driver’s licence.
Critical Knowledge Areas:
- Advanced knowledge of public policy analysis, development, and strategy management.
- Expertise in modern systems of governance, public finance, and people management.
- In-depth understanding of the Constitutional and legal frameworks governing the South African public sector.
Skills and Personal Attributes:
- Exceptional leadership, conceptual, and formulation skills.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities.
- Strong planning, organising, and team management capabilities.
- The ability to multi-task, manage under pressure, and influence key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
The Chief Director will be tasked with a wide range of duties, including:
- Developing and maintaining provincial examination and assessment systems aligned with national policy.
- Pioneering electronic assessment systems to meet 21st-century education demands.
- Overseeing the appointment, training, and management of moderation and marking officials.
- Ensuring the secure printing, distribution, and administration of all examination materials.
- Managing the marking process, resulting, and certification of all external examinations.
- Providing guidance to schools to ensure the credibility of school-based assessments.
- Developing strategies to support and incentivize schools to improve their results.
- Leading the development and implementation of cutting-edge examination IT systems.
