This is a senior role requiring a high-caliber candidate with a proven track record. The ideal applicant will meet the following criteria:

Education and Registration:

  • A Degree in Health Science or a field relevant to Occupational Health (NQF Level 7).
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior management role within the occupational health field.

Critical Knowledge Areas:

  • Project management, finance, and economics.
  • Public-sector policies, strategies, and legislation related to Mine Health and Safety.
  • People management, data management, analysis, and reporting.
  • Planning tools and presentation techniques.

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Superior project management, report writing, and presentation abilities.
  • Strong decision-making, analytical, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Nyukela Programme: The recommended candidate must produce a Certificate of Completion for the SMS Pre-Entry Programme (Nyukela) offered by the National School of Government. Access it here.
  • Shortlisted candidates will undergo compulsory competency and technical assessments.
  • Disclosure of financial interests is required.

Your Key Responsibilities

As the Chief Director, you will be entrusted with a portfolio of critical duties, including:

  • Providing specialist advice and oversight on occupational hygiene and medicine matters across the mining industry.
  • Rendering medical advice as mandated by the Mine Health and Safety Act.
  • Leading research and benchmarking initiatives with international counterparts to identify training and policy gaps.
  • Overseeing quality assurance for all Inspectorate processes, including inspections, audits, and investigations.
  • Assisting with the technical aspects of developing standards and legislation.
  • Managing the operations and strategy of the entire Chief Directorate.
