Who Should Apply? The Requirements

This senior management role demands a exceptional candidate with the following qualifications and experience:

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • An NQF Level 7 qualification (e.g., Bachelor’s Degree/Advanced Diploma) as recognised by SAQA.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience at a senior management level.

Recommendations:

  • A relevant Master’s Degree.
  • Experience working in a policy and strategy environment, preferably within the Public Sector.

The ideal candidate will possess proven knowledge and experience in:

  • Legislation, regulatory frameworks, and public sector policies.
  • Policy development, strategy management, monitoring, and review.
  • Understanding global and local affairs impacting provincial government.
  • Strategic capability, leadership, and people management.
  • Financial management, programme management, and change management.
  • Excellent networking, conceptual, and formulation skills.

Your Key Responsibilities: The Duties

As the Chief Director, you will be the strategic linchpin for the provincial government. Your duties will be vast and impactful, including:

  • Strategic Policy Leadership: Providing high-level advice and guiding evidence-based policy and strategy development, implementation, and review across the provincial government.
  • Policy Analysis & Research: Conducting in-depth analysis of the provincial policy environment, national policies, and legislation to prepare provincial responses and identify critical intervention areas.
  • Provincial Strategic Plan (PSP): Facilitating the development and periodic review of the PSP to ensure it aligns with long-term goals and budgetary processes.
  • Sector-Specific Strategy: Providing dedicated support to the provincial executive for both the Human Social Development and Economic Sectors. This includes coordinating sector plans, advising on budget prioritisation, initiating new programmes, and assessing implementation progress.
  • Integrated Planning: Ensuring all departmental strategic plans are aligned with the overarching provincial strategic priorities.
  • Management: Overseeing change management, people management, and financial management within the unit.
