Key Requirements
To be considered for this prestigious role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Education & Experience:
- A Degree (NQF 7) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Business Information.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience at a middle or senior management level within an IT environment.
- A Postgraduate Degree in Business Management will be a distinct advantage.
Essential Knowledge & Skills:
- Expert management knowledge in all IT areas, with a specific focus on IT Infrastructure.
- Technical expertise in advanced strategic ICT Infrastructure and network configuration.
- Proficiency in strategic planning, financial management, project management, and policy development.
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- In-depth understanding of the regulatory framework for IT management in government.
- Ability to think logically, creatively, and objectively to analyse and interpret complex information.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Completion of the SMS Pre-Entry Programme (Nyukela) is required before appointment. Access the programme here.

- Successful candidates must be prepared to disclose their financial interests.
Key Responsibilities
As the Director of IT, your duties will be critical to the department’s operations:
- Oversee the management of IT service delivery to promote continuous improvement in productivity and customer satisfaction.
- Direct processes for system security and ensure compliance with the IT regulatory framework.
- Manage the department’s architecture and network configuration.
- Develop, maintain, and implement IT policies, strategies, and infrastructure architecture.
- Investigate and advise on the maintenance of existing technologies and the adoption of new technologies.
- Provide overall management and leadership to the IT Directorate.
