To be considered for this pivotal role, you must meet the following criteria:
Education and Experience:
- A National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Health, or Environmental Management.
- A Certificate in Mine Environmental Control.
- A minimum of 3 years’ proven experience in the field of Occupational Hygiene.
- A valid driver’s license.
Essential Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and its associated Regulations.
- Proficiency in hazard identification and risk management principles.
- Understanding of the Public Service Staff Code and DMPR Policies.
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Strong ability to interpret and apply complex legislation.
- Excellent management skills: planning, leading, organizing, and controlling.
- Superior report writing and formulation skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Language proficiency and strong computer literacy.
- Be an innovative thinker with strong analytical and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to remain calm and collected in challenging situations.
Note: Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo practical exercises and integrity assessments.
Your Key Responsibilities
As an Inspector, your duties will be critical to safeguarding mine workers. You will be responsible for:
- Conducting comprehensive audits and inspections (underground, shaft, and surface) to assess occupational hygiene exposures and stressors, and taking necessary enforcement actions.
- Investigating and reporting on mine-related accidents, contraventions, and complaints, analyzing trends to identify high-risk operations.
- Serving on boards of examiners as required.
- Providing expert consultation and input on mine closure applications, prospecting and mining rights, Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), and township developments.
- Contributing to regional reports and the revision of mining regulations, guidelines, and standards.
