The Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services is offering a rewarding opportunity for dedicated Medical Practitioners to make a significant impact in community healthcare. We are recruiting for two (2) Medical Officer posts at Grade 1, 2, or 3 levels, based at two dynamic Community Day Centres (CDCs) in the Western Cape.
Position Details
- Locations: Symphony Way Community Day Centre (1 Post) and Durbanville Community Day Centre (1 Post)
- Closing Date: 21 February 2025
Remuneration: A Competitive Salary Package
The positions offer attractive, grade-dependent salaries:
- Grade 1: R949,146 per annum
- Grade 2: R1,082,988 per annum
- Grade 3: R1,253,415 per annum
Who Should Apply? Key Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
Minimum Qualifications & Registration:
- An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
- Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.
Experience Requirements:
For South African Qualified Employees:
- Grade 1: No experience required after registration.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ experience after registration.
- Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ experience after registration.
For Foreign Qualified Employees:
- Grade 1: 1 year of relevant experience after registration with a recognised foreign council.
- Grade 2: 6 years of relevant experience after registration with a recognised foreign council.
- Grade 3: 11 years of relevant experience after registration with a recognised foreign council.
Inherent Job Requirements & Competencies:
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Willingness to travel and perform relief duties when required.
- Experience in managing general medical and surgical conditions at a Primary Healthcare (PHC) level.
- Knowledge of South African TB and HIV care guidelines (including drug-resistant TB and paediatric HIV).
- Computer literacy (MS Office Suite).
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to perform outreach services and guide colleagues in managing complex PHC cases.
- Knowledge of Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Your Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be entrusted with a range of critical duties, including:
- Practicing cost-effective, holistic patient care.
- Providing forensic and social services.
- Effective management and utilization of physical and financial resources.
- Contributing to clinical governance.
- Participating in the training and development of staff.
- Ensuring effective data management and upholding the highest standards of quality care and professional conduct.
