The Western Cape Government’s Department of Infrastructure is seeking a highly skilled professional to join their team in a pivotal role focused on municipal human settlement planning.

Position Details:

  • Post: Town and Regional Planner (Production): Municipal Human Settlement Planning
  • Reference Number: DOI 07/2025
  • Salary: Grade A: R721,476 – R774,267 per annum (OSD as prescribed)
  • Centre: Department of Infrastructure, Western Cape Government
  • Closing Date: 03 March 2025

Are You the Ideal Candidate?

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following requirements:

  • An appropriate B-Degree in Urban/Town and Regional Planning or an equivalent qualification.
  • Compulsory registration with the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN) as a Professional Town and Regional Planner on appointment.
  • A minimum of 3 years of post-qualification Town and Regional Planning experience.
  • A valid Code B (or equivalent) driving licence.

Key Competencies and Skills:

  • Knowledge of: Relevant legislation (e.g., SPLUMA), Contract Administration, Programme and Project Management, Policy formulation, Financial Management, and Research methodologies.
  • Skills in: Interpreting and applying policies, strategic problem-solving, sound budgeting, facilitation, and presentation.

Your Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be at the forefront of planning and development in the region. Your duties will include:

  • Influencing forward planning through the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and various sectoral plans.
  • Rendering crucial technical support for project planning within the district area.
  • Undertaking transversal planning for the region to ensure cohesive development.
  • Management of staff, providing leadership and guidance to your team.
