The South African Navy is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Engineering Technician to join its team at the state-of-the-art Naval Communications Centre in Silvermine, Tokai. This is a unique opportunity to work on critical communication systems in a dynamic and secure environment.
Key Requirements:
To be considered for this prestigious role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A National Diploma in Engineering or a relevant qualification.
- A minimum of 3 years of post-qualification technical experience.
- Current Compulsory Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technician.
- A valid driver’s license and own transport are required.
- Proven ability to fault-find to component level and effect repairs.
- Strong leadership, supervision, and management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in MS Office packages.
- Exposure to High Power Transmitters / RF systems will be a significant advantage.
Special Note: The successful candidate must be able to work in an underground location with mechanical air and lighting and be available to work overtime, including nights and weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
The appointed candidate will be entrusted with the following duties:
- Maintain and repair all communications equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
- Supervise and train technical personnel within the department.
- Assist with new projects related to the Communications system.
- Manage and ensure logistic support for the communications system, including liaising with naval stores and outside contractors.
- Assist in planning the department’s budget and supervise procurement processes.
