The South African Navy is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Artisan Foreman to take on the role of Vehicle Workshop Manager. This is a critical position within the Fleet Command, offering a competitive salary and the chance to lead a dedicated team in a dynamic environment.
Are You the Right Fit? Key Requirements
This role is suited for a seasoned mechanical professional with a strong background in vehicle maintenance and workshop management. Before applying, ensure you meet the following mandatory requirements:
- An appropriate Trade Test Certificate as a Mechanical Vehicle Fitter.
- A minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience as an Artisan or Artisan Foreman.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Proven diagnostic experience and specialised knowledge of vehicle maintenance processes.
- Strong computer skills, including knowledge of computer-aided technical applications.
- Excellent communication skills in English (both written and verbal).
- Ability to assess service provider quotations, manage projects, and write technical reports.
- Skills in planning, organising, problem-solving, and technical consulting.
Your Key Responsibilities
As the Vehicle Workshop Manager, your duties will be diverse and leadership-focused:
- Manage Vehicle Maintenance: Oversee the execution of all services, repairs, and vehicle recovery operations.
- Lead Personnel: Manage the vehicle workshop team, ensuring high performance and adherence to standards.
- Ensure Safety Compliance: Manage all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements for tools and personnel.
- Handle Administration: Be responsible for the efficient administration of the workshop section.

- Using the incorrect Z83 form (effective 01 January 2021) will result in disqualification.
- Certified copies of qualifications (not older than six months) are only required from shortlisted candidates.
- Applicants must submit a separate Z83 form and CV for each post they apply for.
- All successful candidates will be subjected to Personnel Suitability Checks (criminal, citizenship, financial, qualification verification) and security clearance processes.
- Appointment will be subject to a 12-month probation period.
