Are you an experienced and registered Engineering Technician with a passion for RF communications and complex systems? The South African Navy’s Fleet Command Headquarters is seeking a highly skilled professional to join its team at the advanced Naval Communications Centre in Silvermine, Tokai. This is a pivotal role that combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities in a unique and critical environment.
Position & Remuneration
Post: Senior Engineering Technician
Salary: R551,493 – R631,056 per annum
Centre: Fleet Command HQ: Naval Communications Centre CT, Silvermine, Tokai
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this prestigious role, candidates must meet the following non-negotiable requirements:
- A National Diploma in Engineering or a relevant qualification.
- A minimum of 6 years’ post-qualification technical experience.
- Current Compulsory Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technician.
- A valid driver’s license (own transport is beneficial).
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of HF Radio Telecommunications, both practical and theoretical.
- Expertise in fault-finding procedures, soldering techniques, and using tools and test equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and circuit diagrams for fault-finding.
- Proven capability to fault-find to component level and perform repairs.
- Strong leadership, supervision, and management skills.
- Excellent planning, organising, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in writing technical reports and communicating effectively in English.
- Computer literacy in MS Office and computer-aided engineering packages.
- Knowledge of project management and legal compliance.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be entrusted with a diverse range of critical duties, including:
- Controlling maintenance and repair work on all equipment within the communication system, general electrics, and support systems.
- Acting as a Divisional Officer for both civilian and uniformed staff.
- Coordinating the installation, refurbishment, and disposal of equipment and handbooks.
- Arranging and supervising all technical training for personnel.
- Ensuring the safety and security of personnel, equipment, and documentation.
- Managing annual budgeting and stores, including internal demands and outside purchasing.

Additional Conditions:
- The role is based in an underground location with mechanical air and lighting.
