The Metro Health Services Chief Directorate is seeking dedicated and skilled individuals to join the team at Karl Bremer Hospital in the Northern/Tygerberg Sub-structure on a sessional basis. Position Details
- Post: Medical Officer Grade 1 to 3 (Psychiatry) – Sessional (20 Sessions)
- Contract Duration: 3 Years
- Location: Karl Bremer Hospital, Northern/Tygerberg Sub-structure

Remuneration: Competitive Hourly Rates
The salary is based on your grade, which is determined by your years of experience:
- Grade 1: R457 per hour
- Grade 2: R521 per hour
- Grade 3: R603 per hour
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
Education and Registration:
- An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
- Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.
Experience:
- Grade 1: No experience required after HPCSA registration for SA-qualified employees. 1 year for foreign-qualified employees not requiring Community Service.
- Grade 2: Minimum of 5 years experience post-HPCSA registration for SA-qualified. 6 years for foreign-qualified.
- Grade 3: Minimum of 10 years experience post-HPCSA registration for SA-qualified. 11 years for foreign-qualified.
Inherent Job Requirements:
- A valid Code B/EB driver’s licence.
- Willingness to be on standby, including weekends, as per the rotation schedule.
- Must be flexible to accommodate changes in the work schedule.
- Willingness to travel.
Key Competencies and Skills:
- Appropriate experience in Psychiatry.
- Excellent clinical expertise and a strong understanding of clinical governance.
- Proven skills in teaching and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Key Performance Areas (Duties)
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Clinical Services: Providing high-quality clinical services to both inpatients and outpatients.
- Clinical Care Coordination: Coordinating, planning, and ensuring adherence to protocols to promote positive clinical care outcomes for mental health care users.
- Clinical Service Administration: Assisting with related clinical administrative tasks to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Teaching and Training: Participating in the teaching and training of undergraduate students, interns, and peers within clinical settings.
