About the Role
The South African Navy is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Artisan to take on a supervisory role at the Naval Armament Depot in the historic town of Simon’s Town. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified artisan to step into a leadership position within a critical national defense environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of administrative, supervisory, and technical duties, ensuring the highest standards of safety, security, and quality are maintained.
Key Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following mandatory requirements:
- An appropriate Trade Test Certificate.
- A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience as an Artisan.
- A valid driver’s license.
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
- Advanced ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proven leadership, supervision, and management skills.
- Technical analysis, report writing, and knowledge of legal compliance.
- Skills in planning, organising, conflict management, and project management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The appointed candidate will be tasked with the following duties:
- Performing administration duties for the section.
- Training and developing subordinates.
- Managing quality standards within the workspace.
- Performing supervisory and management duties.
- Assisting with budget requirements.
- Ensuring safety and security standards are maintained.
- Overseeing environmental services.

Important Notes for Applicants:
- Form Z83: Applications must be submitted on the new, effective Z83 form (obtainable from any Public Service department or the DPSA website). Applications on the incorrect form will be disqualified.
- Documentation: The Z83 must be accompanied by a detailed CV. Certified copies of qualifications (not older than six months) are only required from shortlisted candidates.
- Multiple Applications: A separate Z83 and CV must be submitted for each post applied for.
- Selection Process: Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to Personnel Suitability Checks (criminal, citizenship, finance, qualification verification), security clearance, and two pre-entry assessments (practical and ethical).
- No Feedback: If you do not receive feedback within three (3) months of the closing date, please consider your application unsuccessful.
- Probation: The successful candidate will be appointed on a 12-month probation period.
