Are you a skilled and experienced Auto Electrician looking for a rewarding career with a prestigious national institution? The South African Navy is seeking a dedicated Artisan to join its team at the scenic Naval Base in Simon’s Town. This role is critical to maintaining the operational readiness of the Navy’s vehicle fleet through expert technical oversight and quality assurance.
About the Role
This position is based within the Transport Depot and is responsible for the management and technical inspection of vehicle maintenance and repairs. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring all outsourced vehicle services comply with stringent standards and regulations, including the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
Key Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following essential criteria:
- An appropriate Trade Test Certificate as an Auto Electrician.
- A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience as an Artisan.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Specialised knowledge in vehicle maintenance processes and diagnostic procedures.
- Proven ability to assess service provider quotations for market-related costs.
- Excellent communication skills in English (both written and verbal).
- Strong planning, organising, problem-solving, and technical report writing skills.
- Knowledge of legal compliance and computer-aided technical applications.
Key Responsibilities
The duties of the Auto Electrician Artisan will include:
- Obtaining quotations for vehicle services and repairs.
- Managing and monitoring all outsourced vehicle maintenance and repairs to ensure quality and compliance.
- Maintaining and managing outsourcing requirements.
- Overseeing Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards within the workshop.
- Handling the general administration of the electrical workshop.
