The Western Cape Government Health Services is seeking a dedicated and skilled Chief Food Services Manager to lead the Catering Services unit at Alexandra Hospital. This is a pivotal role where your expertise will directly impact patient care and staff well-being through excellent nutritional services.

Position Overview

Post: Chief Food Services Manager (Catering Services)
Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services
Centre: Alexandra Hospital
Salary: R376,413 per annum

Key Requirements

To be considered for this leadership position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: An appropriate 3-year National Diploma or Degree in Food Service Management or an equivalent qualification.
  • Experience: Appropriate experience in a large-scale Hospital Food Service environment is essential, along with proven management and supervisory experience.
  • Inherent Job Requirements: Must be willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays. Willingness to be on standby is also required.
  • Key Competencies and Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of hygiene and safety procedures in an industrial Food Service Unit.
    • Strong computer literacy, specifically the ability to create spreadsheets, word documents, and presentations in Microsoft Office.
    • Proven skills in managing the operations of an industrial Food Service Unit.
    • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and time management abilities.
    • Sound numerical skills.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be entrusted with the following duties:

  • Plan and develop the strategic management of the Hospital’s Food Services Unit.
  • Manage the day-to-day operational activities of the Food Service Unit to ensure efficiency and quality.
  • Identify and manage risks within the unit to maintain the highest standards of safety and hygiene.
  • Oversee all Human Resource management matters for the catering team.
  • Manage all financial aspects related to the Food Services Unit, ensuring budgetary compliance.
