The Department of Employment and Labour is seeking two dedicated and skilled individuals to join the Thohoyandou Labour Centre as Labour Inspectors. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a vital role in ensuring compliance with South Africa’s labour laws and protecting the rights of workers. Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following criteria:
- A three-year relevant tertiary qualification (NQF Level 6) in Labour Relations, BCOM Law, or LLB.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in Inspection and Enforcement Services.
- A valid driver’s license is essential.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of: Departmental policies and procedures, Skills Development Act, Labour Relation Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Skills Development Levies Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, COIDA, Unemployment Insurance Act, Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act, and Employment Equity Act.
Skills: Facilitation, Planning and Organizing, Computer Literacy, Interpersonal Skills, Conflict Handling, Negotiation, Problem Solving, Interviewing, Listening, Observation, Presentation, Innovation, Analytical, and strong Verbal and Written Communication.
Key Performance Areas (Duties)
As a Labour Inspector, your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and independently conducting inspections to ensure compliance with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA).
- Executing independent investigations on reported cases of labour legislation contraventions and enforcing the law when necessary.
- Planning and conducting proactive (Blitz) inspections to monitor compliance with all labour legislation.
- Conducting independent advocacy campaigns to educate on labour laws.
- Drafting and maintaining inspection plans and reports, including analysis and compilation of consolidated statistical reports.
