Salary: R551,493 – R631,056 per annum
The South African Navy is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Professional to lead the Constructive Section of its Naval Design Office. This is a senior technical role based in the historic naval town of Simon’s Town, offering a competitive government salary and the chance to play a critical role in supporting the fleet.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this prestigious position, candidates must meet the following non-negotiable requirements:
- A National Diploma in Engineering or a relevant qualification.
- A minimum of 6 years’ post-qualification technical experience.
- Current Compulsory Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technician.
- A valid driver’s license.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in:
- Working in a Commercial shipyard or marine constructive design environment.
- Experience in a Marine/Mechanical drawing office within a Marine Engineering or Naval Architectural discipline.
- In-depth knowledge of Class and IMO rules and regulations for surface vessels.
- Procedures and Planning within a Design environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCad / Caddie and the MS Office suite.
- Report writing and the ability to compile and present technical reports.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
Knowledge of naval surface vessel rules, naval stores procurement, refit procedures, financial management, and legal compliance will be a distinct advantage.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Supervising and leading the Constructive Section of the Naval Design Office.
- Controlling the Constructive Acceptance and Trial functions.
- Managing the Constructive element of the Support Vessel Engineering Change (EC) and upgrade service.
- Controlling Constructive Projects, Tasks, and Functions.
- Overall management and organization of the Constructive Section.
