About the Role
This position is critical to maintaining the operational readiness of the Navy’s fleet. You will be responsible for the intricate refrigeration and air conditioning systems onboard ships and submarines, ensuring they meet strict safety and performance standards. The role combines hands-on technical work with mentorship and requires a high level of precision and responsibility.
Who Should Apply? The Requirements
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Mandatory Qualifications: A valid and appropriate Trade Test Certificate.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience working as an Artisan.
- Driving License: A valid driver’s license is required.
- Technical Skills: Proven knowledge of refrigeration test equipment, applicable machinery, safety standards, and the ability to read technical drawings.
- Advantageous: Previous maritime experience will be a significant advantage.
- Soft Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, the ability to conduct technical training, compile documentation, and strong planning and organising skills.
- Legal Knowledge: Understanding of Legal Compliance, the OHS Act, and Conflict Management.
- Physical Fitness: You must be medically fit and able to work on ships and submarines.
Your Key Responsibilities (Duties)
- Provide advice, guidance, and in-house training to junior artisans and apprentices.
- Operate specialised machining equipment.
- Conduct precise gas and electronic leak detection.
- Interpret job requirements from instructions, drawings, samples, and templates.
- Strictly adhere to all safety and quality regulations.
- Perform duties on board ships and submarines as required.
