About the Role
The Department of Employment and Labour is seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to take on the role of Senior Labour Inspector at the Makhado Labour Centre. This is a critical position that ensures compliance with South Africa’s labour laws, protecting the rights of workers and maintaining fair labour practices within the region. Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Qualifications: A three-year National Diploma (NQF 6) or an undergraduate Bachelor Degree (NQF 7) in Labour Relations, Labour Law, LLB, or BCOM Law.
- Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of functional experience in Inspection and Enforcement services.
- Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is essential.
- Knowledge: A thorough understanding of:
- Departmental policies and procedures
- Employment Services Act
- Labour Relation Act (LRA)
- Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA)
- Occupational Health and Safety Act
- COIDA
- Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA)
- Employment Equity Act
- And other relevant labour legislation.
- Skills: Excellent facilitation, planning, organizing, communication, conflict handling, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in computer literacy is required.
Key Performance Areas (Duties)
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Independently planning and conducting inspections to ensure compliance with the BCEA and LRA.
- Executing investigations into reported cases of labour legislation contraventions and preparing to appear in court as a state witness.
- Planning and conducting proactive (Blitz) inspections and compiling detailed reports.
- Conducting advocacy campaigns to educate on labour legislation.
- Managing and finalizing case files from inspectors.
- Contributing to regional inspection planning, analysis, and compiling statistical reports.
