Technical Artisan Opportunity: Maintain Critical Naval Equipment

The South African Navy is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Artisan to join the team at the Naval Stores Depot in Wingfield, Goodwood. This is a critical role focused on the maintenance and servicing of high-pressure air equipment and life support systems, ensuring the safety and operational readiness of naval personnel.

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following mandatory requirements:

  • An appropriate Trade Test Certificate.
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience as an Artisan.
  • A valid driver’s license.

You will also need to demonstrate proven skills and knowledge in:

  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings.
  • Effective written and verbal communication in English.
  • Teamwork, supervision, and management.
  • MS Office packages and computer-aided technical applications.
  • Writing technical reports and legal compliance.
  • Conflict Management and the OHS Act.
  • Planning, organizing, and problem-solving.

Your Key Responsibilities

As the successful candidate, your duties will include:

  • Maintaining cylinders according to strict maintenance schedules and relevant SANS documentation.
  • Servicing High-Pressure air equipment and life support systems.
  • Repairing all defective equipment and systems.
  • Testing life support equipment and air storage vessels, and accurately recording specifications on cylinder inspection reports (C.I.R.).
  • Ensuring all HP equipment procedures adhere to relevant SANS standards.
  • Charging air and CO2 cylinders.
  • Pre-delivery inspection and preparation of all life support equipment.

  • Certified copies of qualifications (not older than six months) are only required from shortlisted candidates.
